Position Overview 

As a Crew Leader you will lead a team to various job sites throughout the week, ensuring the job is done right, on time and safely. You will be a subject matter expert providing guidance to the team and acting as a mentor for newer team members, assisting them in developing a better understanding of the Arboriculture profession. You will also work to provide an exceptional customer experience as the main point of contact for our clients.

Job Duties

  • Safely and efficiently lead a crew in providing arboricultural care for our clients.
  • Directs crew members and equipment as well as planning and executing the assigned work and tasks.
  • Manage customer service expectations.
  • Provides line clearing and tree trimming services for major electric utility providers and rail customers
  • Operate as an active crew member with supporting ground crew and crew leader.
  • Perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients.
  • Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood throughout the tree canopy
  • Removal of hazardous trees
  • Removal or trimming of trees and brush encroaching onto utility or transportation rights of ways
  • Properly maintain, prepare, and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
  • Responsible for job site set up, clean up.

Qualifications

  • Understanding and implementation of the process of safely ascending tree canopies at all heights.
  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience and 3 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Electric utility tree trimming/climbing experience preferred.
  • Certified Utility Arborist, Utility Arborist, Utility Tree Trimmer, MTCU 444B qualification required.
  • Valid provincial driver’s license with qualification to drive a 5-ton vehicle and air brake endorsement (DZ).
  • Valid Standard First Aid certificate.
  • Valid Working at Heights certificate.
  • ISHA line clearance proficiency.
  • ISA certification is an asset.
  • Utility Work Protection Code training is an asset.
  • Formal industry education is an asset.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.
