Orchard to Bear Fruit for Prison System

Thanks to funding from the Alliance for Community Trees People's Garden Grant Program, a new orchard of fruit trees is set to educate and feed inmates at a Nebraska correctional centre, while also saving the facility up to $20,000 annually. The Nebraska Forest Service, Department of Correctional Services, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Nebraska Statewide Arboretum together created this demonstration orchard with 37 fruit trees and 20 nut trees, which may serve as a model for future orchards at other prisons across the state.

Our mission is to enhance and promote the care and benefit of trees for present and future generations in Ontario through education, research and awareness.
