CANADIAN TREE FUND NEWS
May/June 2010
Kimmel Gets Worldwide Recognition
We are well into 2010 and the TREE Fund is actively involved in this years fund raising initiatives with the hope of once again achieving our $50,000 annual goal. If you havent yet made a donation, check out the upcoming events to find out how you can get involved. If you make all or part of your living from the arboriculture industry, it makes perfect sense to be giving something back the Canadian TREE Fund is a great way to do just that.
In past articles and presentations at the Ontario Chapter annual conference, we hinted about the possible formation of an international grant program in collaboration with the TREE Fund. I am very happy to report that we have been successful in establishing the Jack Kimmel International Grant Program. This is a very exciting initiative that will make much needed funding available to researchers all over the world. In addition, it will further enhance recognition of Jack Kimmel, a truly great Canadian and one of our industrys forefathers.
Essentially the grant will be administered by a joint task force with representation from both organizations and promoted through the worldwide ISA network. Grants will be limited to projects requesting up to $10,000, and supported primarily through donations to Canadian riders who participate in the Tour des Trees. The deadline to apply for the first available grant(s) will be November 1, 2010, which coincides with the TREE Funds John Z. Duling Grant cycle. Watch for an official announcement from the TREE Fund in the next issue of the Arborist News.
Support TEAM Canada who will be riding for research July 18-24, 2010!
