Arborists are tasked with dealing with trees that have storm damage. Should the tree be removed, losing decades of growth and its ability to store carbon and release oxygen, or be pruned to remain in the landscape? How does an arborist make this important decision correctly, tree after tree? If a tree is to be saved, what pruning should be done? This course is designed to help the arborist make important pruning and removal decisions, to avoid clear-cutting of essential trees while improving site safety and setting trees up for future continued growth.
Topics to be Covered include: 1. Tree Biomechanics and Storm Response; 2. Pruning for Risk Reduction; 3. Species-Specific Considerations in Ontario; 4. Post-Storm Assessment & Remedial Pruning; 5. Tools, Techniques, and Technology; 6. Long-Term Tree Preservation Strategies.
