Join Ironwood Arboriculture & Kyle McLoughlin for this one day workshop on Saturday March 28, in Stoney Creek ON.
Set yourself apart from your colleagues by rounding out your knowledge of trees and the species they interact with every day. Fungi and trees are inseparable, and occur so consistently that the patterns they follow can be understood for the benefit of our urban forests and many other trees in the landscape. The first step in understanding that relationship is by developing the skill to ID different fungi and trees, and knowing which ones are friends of the tree manager, and which ones are foes.
Main areas of workshop focus:
● Mushroom ID Basics and Advanced
○ How Fungal kingdom is organized and how to describe and understand fruiting bodies
● Types of Decay
○ Which is most common? How does each affect wood structure?
● Red and Yellow Flag Fungi
○ Does every tree with decay require removal?
● 5 Relationships with Trees
○ Can you name the five major parts of a tree? How to spot fungi in each area?
● Developing the skills to troubleshoot problems
○ What are the steps of translating knowledge into practical solutions that help tree owners?
